Personal Update:
In May, 2025, if the Lord permits, I will celebrate my 80th birthday. Strangely, I do not feel older than 79 years old.
Also, the following month, on June 12, 2025, I will celebrate my 50th anniversary in the gospel ministry.
Revival preaching, due to my age and some health issues, has given place more to single service ministry, mostly at local churches near us.
Yes, you are reading that heading correctly. At the beginning of my ministry in 1975, I enrolled in the Bible Institute course at Liberty University. Upon graduation in 1977, I felt that my formal Bible education was complete.
But I have come to understand that learning is a life-long enterprise, so in 2023, at the age of 78 years, I enrolled in the Master's Program at Andersonville Theological Seminary. Thinking that I would be the oldest student in school was quickly dispelled when I learned that several brethren, all in their 90's were also enrolled. As the "youngster," then, I began my studies. I had not taken a final exam or written a research paper since 1978, so the process was a challenge at first. But I am on the path to my Th.M, and hope to begin work on my Th.D, in a year or so. Being back in school has been very rewarding, and I can report that my bride, Linda, is very supportive.

Rev. Charles David Ensor
August 4, 1948 - November 13, 2024
Pastor Charles ("Charlie") Ensor left the land of the dying and went to the land of the living. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, pastor and friend. Especially as brother to me, his older sibling.
Charlie leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Linda (Steele) Ensor, his lifelong companion in the gospel ministry. Linda is a faithful, talented musician, Sunday School teacher and soul-winner. She is the epitome of a gracious pastor's wife. Charlie is survived by three children, John, Amy and Joel, and several grandchildren.
Charlie was a dedicated pastor, first at Midway Baptist Church, and for twenty-five years at Carson Island Baptist Church, in Maryville, Tennessee, until his health forced him to retire. He was greatly loved and respected by his church family.
He was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Jamestown at the mouth of the Mekong Delta. Like many soldiers and sailors, he was exposed to the chemical Agent Orange. He was totally disabled and wheelchair confined at the time of his death.
More than a brother, he was my primary consort in the ministry, behind only my wife. I preached many revival meetings for his church, and we were blessed to have shared the pulpit in church meetings together.
We spoke almost daily. Our talks were often about yardwork and gardening, but mostly we talked about our Lord and preaching. We shared sermon outlines and message titles.... Charlie had a knack for naming sermons.
Preaching his funeral was bittersweet. The idea of missing our fellowship is painful. But I know that our parting is only for a short time and we will see him "in the morning." |

Preaching, writing and church work:
