Doctrines and Disciplines for Bible Believers is a concise study of the major Bible doctrines of the historic Christian faith. It is founded upon the King James Bible and is uncompromisingly Baptist in theology. It extends beyond the scope of the traditional Sunday School by presenting an introductory survey of the Biblical concepts and disciplines necessary to prepare Christian workers for service in the church.
The primary role of discipleship rests upon the local church. The first and most important step in a believer’s education should begin on a pew with an open Bible, before a Godly pastor in a Christ honoring, Bible-believing New Testament church. The thirst for the Scriptures should begin here, and although most Christians will not attend a Bible school, it is important for them to learn as much as possible about God’s precious Word.
The study topics were not chosen as a demonstration of personal expertise. No claim is made to originality; the curriculum was developed by learning from great men of God. The general outline form is fashioned after that followed by Dr. Harold Wilmington, Dean, Thomas Road (now Liberty) Bible Institute. Dr. Wilmington’s style of topical summary had a profound impact upon the structure of this course. Notes taken from sermons and books by many preachers, teachers and Bible scholars have been used to give clarity to complicated doctrinal terms and concepts. There has been no intent to plagiarize the writings of these wonderful servants of God, but their shadows can be seen, in honor of their labors which have been such an inspiration.
For more than thirty-four years this study course has been used by pastors and missionaries in the pews, on the streets and behind prison bars to guide inquiring hearts to a better understanding of the Bible. Countless souls have been saved and strengthened and many have been called to Christian service.
In grateful recognition of the love and encouragement of my wife Linda, my best friend, thank you for patiently editing and improving the manuscripts. It is wonderful to be married to a professional educator and dedicated Christian.
